Roraima has the worst performance in the Legal Amazon in all the dimensions evaluated
Roraima scored 20.8 points on the Environmental Democracy Index, the lowest among the nine states of the Legal Amazon. Performance was classified as "bad" or "terrible" in all dimensions, reflecting institutional weaknesses and public policies aimed at environmental democracy.
In Access to Environmental Information, the state scored 39.4 points ("bad"). Of the 29 categories evaluated, 14 did not provide any data, and much of the information available is incomplete, out of date or in inadequate formats.
The Access to Environmental Justice dimension scored even worse: 29 points ("bad"), the worst result in the region among the entities evaluated. There are few specialized structures to deal with environmental or land issues and there are no initiatives for access to justice in environmental matters in remote regions.
In Access to Participation, the state scored only 13.7 points ("very bad"), the worst result in the region, which shows the need for improvements in the functioning of the state environmental council, the councils of conservation units and the public hearings for environmental licensing.
The most critical performance was in Protection of Environmental Defenders, with only 0.8 points ("very bad"). Roraima has no state protection program, reporting channels or whistleblower protection mechanisms.
