Amapá advances in social participation, but fails in access to information and justice and in protecting environmental defenders
Amapá scored 31 points in the Environmental Democracy Index, ranking sixth among the states of the Legal Amazon. Despite the "poor" performance overall, the state scored positively in the Access to Participation dimension, being the second best rated in the region.
In the other dimensions, performance was significantly lower. In Access to Information, Amapá scored 38.1 points ("bad"). Most environmental data is out of date or missing. In Access to Justice , the score was 37.5 points ("bad"), reflecting the absence of specialized structures in the Judiciary and the Public Defender's Office and the lack of initiatives to expand access to environmental issues in remote regions.
